Our Projects

In 1997, Professors H. G. Bock (Heidelberg), H. X. Phu (Hanoi), and N. T. Son (HCMC) have initiated a cooperation program between their institutions

• Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR) at the Heidelberg University,
• Institute of Mathematics at the National Center for Sciences and Technology of Vietnam, and
• Department of Information Technology at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology.

The collaboration deals with one of the most fascinating areas of computer high technology: High Performance Scientific Computing (HPSC). A broad range of actions is performed to enhance education, research and development and to foster the transfer of innovative HPSC technology into Vietnamese industry and economy.

The first activity,

Symposium on Problems in Scientific Computing (in 1998),

was followed by the

Spring School Practice of Scientific Computing (in 1999)

with an emphasis on process optimization and software engineering. Both were very well received by the participants who came from many different institutions in Vietnam. The next major event in this series will be the international

Conference on High Performance Scientific Computing,

to take place in Hanoi, March 27-31, 2000. During the project an extensive exchange program between Vietnam and Germany is realized on all levels, from undergraduate students to professors. In particular, Heidelberg University already provided scholarships for two Vietnamese PhD students to study at IWR.

The project is partly supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Ministry for Economical Cooperation for four years. Additional supports come from the Daimler-Benz-Foundation and from the German Science Foundation (DFG) for joint research work.

Web site "HPSC Hanoi 2000" has built up as a location giving information to scientists, researchers, and others who are interested in the Conference on High Performance Scientific Computing (HPSC) in March 27-31, 1999.

Thanks to IBM due to the professional Web editor "IBM NetObjects TopPage version 4.0.3". Although we have only used its evaluation copy, it is powerful enough to create Web pages easily and conveniently in a short period of time. We also respect the search engine Altavista at the address http://www.altavista.com, which helped us so much by finding necessary information. On the way of designing our Web site, we have used some information and photos from some other Web pages, of course for non-profit purpose. All photos are still remained in their original forms.
